WEB DESIGN

Creating a website using Weebly has been incredibly illuminating as to what is possible in terms of web design in the classroom. While it took some time to learn how to manipulate various features, it is a very simple program to use and I would feel very comfortable teaching a unit on web design, possibly with the intention of creating a class website complete with class blogs, links, wikis etc. It also has the advantage that results are instant.
To begin with, pupils will need to produce and collect together information / images that they want to upload. This part would involve the use of handheld devices for recording media and information and children could also think about uploading work from other lessons (photographs of art projects, writing, drama etc.).
The next step would involve signing up with a web design provider such as Weebly or Moonfruit and picking a template and colour scheme that matches the classes needs. With some instruction regarding how to insert text and pictures , children could then build and edit the website.
I would aim any unit involving practical web-design at upper Key Stage 2, due to the skill level and understanding in requires. Pupils would also probably have to work in mixed ability pairs to support one another's learning.
The results of my learning and confidence in this area can be seen in the different sections within this website.
